Gary DeWaal, special counsel in the Financial Services practice, will participate in a series of panel discussions designed to brief US market participants on what they need to do to prepare for Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II). Gary will present "What Every US Market Participant Should Know About MiFID II" in New York on Tuesday, July 28 at 3:00 p.m. (ET), and again in Chicago on Thursday, July 30 at 3:00 p.m. (CT).

MiFID II, which will become effective in January 2017 and apply across all asset classes with limited exemptions, is expected to dramatically reshape the EU market structure and the way firms operate in the financial services sector. The new rules will impact both firms operating within the EU and those accessing EU venues. This presentation will address the following topics:

  • direct electronic access;
  • automated trading;
  • the definition of high-frequency trading;
  • algorithm tagging;
  • market making;
  • sponsored access;
  • indirect clearing;
  • equivalence; and
  • straight-through processing.
