Assisting national companies with strategies to combat insurance fraud

Matt represents large national insurers and affiliated associations in health care fraud and affirmative RICO litigation involving fraudulent insurance claims in federal and state courts across the country. He also advises insurers on how to investigate and identify fraudulent claims as well as on recovery strategies. Matt has developed relationships with a wide variety of medical, financial and other subject-matter experts to assist his clients in identifying and pursuing recovery for systemic fraud involving, among other things, the provision of medically unnecessary procedures and services, billing for services not rendered, violations of anti-kickback, patient-brokering, and licensure laws, as well as prohibitions against the corporate practice of medicine.

To minimize his clients’ exposure to fraud and avoid the risk and cost of litigation, Matt assists his clients in developing effective claims-handling strategies. When affirmative litigation is pursued, Matt’s clients rely on his significant experience and knowledge to pursue the most effective strategies to achieving optimal recovery for them.

Prior to Katten, Matt worked at a law firm in Washington, DC, where his practice focused on complex commercial litigation disputes representing corporations, insurers, lawyers, directors and officers, and other professionals in tort and contractual claims and matters involving professional responsibility. Matt also previously worked as a public defender representing indigent criminal defendants in felony and misdemeanor proceedings involving a wide variety of alleged financial, drug and violent crimes.
