Joel Weiner, a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, is mentioned in a Law360 article on a copyright infringement suit faced by NBCUniversal Media LLC regarding its Animal Practice sitcom. While an attorney claims the TV series is based on a treatment he wrote about an animal hospital, the  network counters that the works are not substantially similar even if the idea for the treatment was original. “It doesn’t matter if it’s original if you’re just talking about an idea,” Joel explained at a hearing on NBCUniversal’s motion to dismiss the case. “It’s only the expression of an idea … that gives it protectability under copyright law.” Joel, Gail Migdal Title and Christopher Carter are representing NBCUniversal.
